Over 600 Palestinians Dead as Israeli Siege

The Palestinian death toll in Gaza has topped 600 as the Israeli siege has entered its third week. Most of those killed are civilians; more than 100 are children. Israel says it has lost 27 soldiers since the ground invasion began last week. Earlier today, Israel confirmed the remains of one of its soldiers presumed to have been killed in Gaza had still not been found. Hamas has said it captured the soldier. Meanwhile, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is due to arrive in Israel to push for a ceasefire. Earlier today, Ban met in Cairo with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Egyptian officials and leaders from the Arab League. We will go to Gaza for more on the crisis after headlines.

Migrant Children’s Plight

The House Judiciary Committee’s June 25 hearing was supposed to be about the recent surge in the numbers of unaccompanied child migrants from Central America who are arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border. Had this really been the subject of the hearing, the topic of escalating gang violence in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador would have been front and center—as would the issue of how best to help children who have been seriously traumatized by both their journeys and conditions in their home countries. Yet, thanks to some who sit on the committee and those seated at the witness table, getting at the heart of these matters was like pulling teeth.

It was also telling that, behind the witness table, only one person—Rev. Mark J. Seitz, Bishop of the Diocese of El Paso—returned the discussion to the point where it should have been all along. He talked about the violence and terror fomented in Central American cities by gangs. He described how parents make an agonizing decision to place their children in the hands of a smuggler, and subject them to a possibly fatal journey northward, because that is the best choice among terrible alternatives. He said that unaccompanied minors apprehended at the border should be placed in child-friendly shelters as quickly as possible, and should be appointed both legal counsel and case workers.

Listen to Mumia Abu Jamal’s commentary on this issue:

Nearly 60,000 children mostly from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala have arrived in the US since last October. Many of them are being held in facilities as President Obama and the governors of border states struggle to find a politically acceptable solution.

A close look into the reason why these children take this long and dangerous journey is written in the book “Enrique’s Journey” by Sonia Nazario, based on a series of prize winning reports she wrote for the LA Times. Enrique’s Journey has been published in eight languages and has been adopted by 54 universities and scores of high schools nationwide.

The people of Murrieta, Ca and other places, white America – are fighting to keep these children and their parents out of this country in the only way they know how to – through racism. It is quite pitiful to see that these descendants of Europe who’s ancestor’s were the true terrorists of this land and others beyond, think this is their land… Go back to your homeland white man I say to those who know not how to live amongst the natives of this country.

Green Scare: Animal Rights Activists Face Terrorism Charges for Freeing Minks From Fur Farm

The government has unveiled federal terrorism charges against two animal rights activists accused of helping to free minks and foxes from fur farms in rural Illinois. In newly unsealed indictments, the prosecutors accuse Tyler Lang and Kevin Oliff of freeing about 2,000 mink from their cages on a fur farm, and then removing parts of the fence surrounding the property so the mink could escape. The activists are also accused of spray painting “Liberation is Love” on the farm’s walls. Lang and Oliff have been indicted under the controversial Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA), which each count carrying a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. We are joined by reporter Will Potter, who covers animal rights and environmental issues at at GreenIstheNewRed.com. “It really doesn’t matter how you feel about animal rights groups, or about these alleged crimes of stealing animals,” Potter says of the AETA, which he argues is too broad while criminalizing protests and civil disobedience. “This is really about a corporate campaign to demonize their opposition and to use terrorism resources to shut down a movement.” Potter also discusses his wildly successful Kickstarter campaign to purchase a drone for use in photographing abuses at factory farms.

When ALL humans understand the common link between ALL living things – to feel pain – then this Earth will strive. Until then, we will continue to see abuse of animals and mankind.

Unfortunately, this understanding and love of all living things will never happen.

Lord Jamar: Iggy Azelea Blowing up because she’s Pretty & White

Source of article: http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.29687/title.lord-jamar-iggy-azalea-blowing-up-because-she-s-pretty-white

Prior to Australian rapper Iggy Azalea’s recent, mainstream success, Lord Jamar says he predicted that those behind Iggy’s career were going to keep pushing until the Aussie musician was “the shit.” Speaking on what’s likely the music industry, he added that Iggy Azalea is their “wet dream” because of her looks, the fact that she’s over-sexualized, and most importantly, because she’s white.

Queens rapper Nicki Minaj was also brought into the conversation as the Brand Nubian lyricist stated that Iggy Azalea’s the preferred artist. He then informed those watching that Iggy is where those in the industry “want rap to go.”

“Didn’t I already tell you, Iggy Azalea, they’re not gonna stop until she’s the shit,” Lord Jamar said during an interview with Vlad TV. “Iggy Azalea is who they want—She’s part of where they want rap to go. They’d much rather an Iggy Azalea than a Nicki Minaj. But the only reason that Iggy Azalea hasn’t blown up the way they want her to yet is cause she ain’t got no hits. But once they start getting her some fuckin hits, you watch. I been called this Iggy Azalea shit [a] couple of years ago. When I first saw her. Cause she’s everything they want. You know what I mean? Pretty, fat ass, over-sexualized, and she’s white. Most of all she’s white. But what’s funny about her is like ‘Okay, she’s from Australia, but the way she rhyme it’s almost like a caricature.’ It’s almost like you making fun. Cause you don’t talk like that…You from down South alright. Down under. Rap like that. Rhyme like a fuckin Aussie. But no, you gonna fuckin rhyme like you black or some shit.”

Lord Jamar later shared a brief hierarchy of artists. He says that Nicki Minaj would be preferred over an artist like Lauryn Hill while Iggy Azalea would be preferred over Minaj. Additionally, Jamar revealed that if a white female rapper came along that looked better than Iggy then she too would lose priority.

“They’ll take a Nicki Minaj over a Lauryn Hill,” he said. “Because she’s lighter and not talking no positive shit. And she’s over-sexualized. But if we can get the same type of Nicki Minaj in a white girl. Well, shit that’s their wet dream…This is a concentrated push. This is a concentrated campaign. They have already decided a long time ago that this girl’s gonna blow up. They’re just gonna keep chipping away until it happens. Now she just better hope that another white girl don’t come along that looks better than her. That has some real hits. Cause then they’ll fuckin throw her to the side and go with that girl. You know what I mean? But until that girl comes she’s the one they’re putting their money on. Trust me.”
